"There is no god but Allah ( none has the right to be worshiped except Allah, the One true God , who has neither wife nor children. ) And verily , Allah is the All - Mighty, the Wise " ( Quran 3 : 62).
Very little is known about the religion of the Arabs before Prophet Abraham. There is little doubt that the Arabs worshiped idols wrongly , celestial bodies , trees and stones , and some of their idols even had animal characteristics . Despite a number of minor deities in the Arabian Peninsula have been associated with the moon [http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/31651/Arabian-religion/68308/Pre-Islamic-deities] there is no evidence that Arabs do not worship a moon god above other gods .
On the other hand , there is evidence that the sun , built as a female god was worshiped throughout Arabia . The Sun ( Shams ) was honored by several Arab tribes with two altars and idols. The name of Abdu Shams (slave of the sun ) has been found in many parts of Arabia. In the North, the name of Amr -i - Shams , "Man of the Sun " and the name was common. One of the uncles of the Prophet Muhammad Abdu Shams was appointed , and the man called Abu Hurayrah , a renowned Islamic scholar of the first generation of Muslims . When Abu Hurayrah converted to Islam , the Prophet Muhammad has changed its name to Abdu Rahman (Slave of the Merciful ) .
Muslims believe with certainty that from the beginning of creation , God has sent prophets and messengers to guide and teach mankind . Therefore, the original religion of mankind was the submission to Allah . The first Arabs worshiped Allah , however , over time their worship was corrupted by man of ideas and superstitions do. The reason for this is shrouded in the mists of time , but may have fallen into the practice of idolatry in the same way that the people of Prophet Noah.
The descendants of the Prophet Noah a community believe in the oneness of God , but confusion and diversion slipped righteous men have tried to remind people of their obligations to God , but time passes and Satan saw an opportunity to cheat people . When the righteous dead , Satan suggested to the people who built the statues of men to help them remember their obligations to Allah .
The people built statues in their places and meeting houses , and Satan left alone until everyone had forgotten why there are statues. Several years later , the devious Satan appeared among the people , this time suggesting that worship idols directly . An authentic narration of Prophet Muhammad , may God praise him , summarizes the principle of idolatry as follows .
"The names ( of the idols ) formerly belonged to the pious men of the people of Noah, and when they died Satan inspired their people to prepare and place idols at the places where they used to sit and call idols by their names. Persons did, but the idols were not worshiped until people ( who initiated them ) had died and the origin of the idols had become obscure , people began after love. " [Sahih Al- Bukhari]
When the Prophet Abraham and his son Ishmael rebuilt the Sacred House of Allah ( Ka'ba ) most Arabs followed suit and did the worship of one God , but as time passed , the Arabs fell into his old habit of worshiping idols and demigods. There is little doubt and much evidence to suggest that in the early prophets Abraham and Muhammad religion of the Arabian Peninsula , became dominated by the worship of idols .
Each tribe or had household idols and statues , the Arabs believe in the prophets , divining arrows used to predict future events and rituals and animal sacrifices made on behalf of their idols . It is said that the principle of the idols of the people of Noah is buried in the field today Jeddah , Saudi Arabia and distributed among the Arab tribes . Darussalam , Riyadh ] When the Prophet Muhammad returned in triumph to Mecca , the Kaaba [The cube-shaped building in the center of Saint - Masjid in the city of Mecca , Saudi Arabia] , contains more than 360 different idols .
The most famous idols that existed in pre -Islamic Arabia known as Manat , Al Lat and al- Uzza . [Hisham Ibn Al- Kalbi , Kitab al- Asnam , edited by Ahmad Zaki Pasha. (Cairo , 1927 ) , pp. 9-14] There is no evidence linking one of the idols of the gods of the moon or the moon, the Arabs worshiped idols and asked for intercession. Allah has repudiated the worship of false idols .
"Have you then considered al- Lat and al- Uzza ( two idols of the pagan Arabs ) . And Manat ( another idol of the pagan Arabs ) , the other third ? Is for men and women to him? Is therefore an unfair! they are but names which ye have named , ye and your fathers , for which Allah has sent down no authority . they follow nothing but conjecture and what they want themselves, then it is surely time for them guidance from their Lord "(Quran 53:19-23 )
Amid overwhelming paganism and polytheism of pre Islamic Arabs never used a moon god as a supreme deity , in fact , there is evidence that you have used a moon god . Generation after generation , have not lost their faith in a supreme ruler of the universe (although most of the time they had the wrong concept of belief in Allah ) . They were aware of His blessings and His punishment, and believe in the Day of Judgment . The poets of the period referred to Allah regularly .
Nabigha , a renowned poet V century AD, said , " I took an oath and left no doubt as to who can stand the man, besides Allah, and Zuhair b . Abi . Salma says her faith in the day the trial , saying "facts are recorded in the book to be presented on the Day of Judgment , revenge can be taken also in this world. " Quran also testifies to the fact that the pre Islamic Arabs were aware of God - God - the One .
" If you ask them :" Who created the heavens and the earth and subjected the sun and the moon ? " They will surely reply: " Allah " How do they differ ( as polytheists and disbelievers ) . ? Increases Allah whom He wills of His servants and restricts for whom ( you want) . Verily, Allah is omniscient. If you ask them : "Who sends down water (rain ) from the sky and with it gives life to the earth after its death? " They will surely respond , say " Allah " . " All praise and thanks be to God ! "No! Most of them have no sense " ( Qur'an 29: 61-63 ) .
